Scripture Wall Art: How to Choose a Verse Print for Each Room

Gift guide cover: Scripture Wall Art: How to Choose a Verse Print for Each Room.

A woman stands in her front hall holding a hammer and a hanging kit, looking at a blank wall. She bought the frame two years ago. She has never found the verse.

That's the usual trouble with scripture wall art. The frame is easy. The verse is hard, because a verse on a wall is something you'll walk past a thousand times, and some verses wear well and some don't.

Short answer: choose a short verse the household already loves, match it to what happens in the room, and pick the smallest size you can read from the doorway. Our prints start at $25.

This guide goes room by room. Twelve of our verse prints are below, with their sizes and their prices in Canadian dollars, checked on 24 Oct. Most let you choose KJV or WEB, and the preview shows you how it will print before you pay.

Four rules before you pick

First, one verse per wall. Two verses on one wall start arguing with each other.

Second, short beats long. A verse you can read in a glance will get read. A paragraph on a print turns into a pattern.

Third, pick the verse that someone in the house already says. If nobody says it, you're decorating, and decorating is fine, but it isn't the same as a verse the family has lived with.

Fourth, think about the size. An 8x10 in print sits on a shelf or a small wall. An 11x14 in suits the space above a table. A 16x20 in print holds its own over a sofa or a bed. Frames aren't included, so budget for one.

Twelve verses, nine rooms

  1. The front hall: Family Name Household Verse Print, from $25 for 8x10 in, $29 for 11x14 in and $39 for 16x20 in. Joshua 24:15 with the family name and the year established. It greets everyone who comes through the door. Not for: a household that may change its name this year.

  2. The living room at Christmas: John 3:16 Christmas Art Print, from $25 for 8x10 in, $29 for 11x14 in and $35 for 16x20 in. It's the whole reason for the season on one wall. Not for: anyone who wants a nativity scene with figures in it.

  3. The kitchen or the study: The Word Became Flesh Print, from $25 for 8x10 in, $29 for 11x14 in and $39 for 16x20 in. John 1:14, centred, with a single rule beneath. It frames well in a plain wood frame. Not for: a room that needs a splash of colour.

  4. The nursery: Heritage of the Lord Nursery Print, from $25 for 8x10 in, $29 for 11x14 in and $35 for 16x20 in. Psalm 127:3, with the baby's name and birth date. A second choice is Fearfully and Wonderfully Made Print, same sizes and prices, with Psalm 139:14. Not for: a child old enough to pick their own wall.

  5. The bedroom: Many Waters Cannot Quench Love Print, from $25 for 8x10 in, $29 for 11x14 in and $35 for 16x20 in. Song of Solomon 8:7, with the couple's names and the wedding date. Or Threefold Cord Anniversary Print, Ecclesiastes 4:12, same sizes and prices. Not for: a couple who'd rather not hang their names where the guests might read them.

  6. The pastor's study or the church office: Your Labour Is Not in Vain Print, from $25 for 8x10 in, $29 for 11x14 in and $35 for 16x20 in. 1 Corinthians 15:58 with a name and a church beneath. Not for: a wall that's already full of plaques.

  7. A graduate's first apartment: Thoughts of Peace Graduate Print, from $25 for 8x10 in, $29 for 11x14 in and $35 for 16x20 in. Jeremiah 29:11 with the graduate's name and the year. A word on this one: the verse was first written to people in exile, and it helps to say so when you give it. It means more that way. Not for: someone who'd read it as a heavy hint.

  8. A baptism: Put On Christ Baptism Print, from $25 for 8x10 in, $29 for 11x14 in and $35 for 16x20 in. Galatians 3:27, with the name and date of the baptism. Not for: a person who hasn't been baptized yet.

  9. A hard season or a house in grief: Near to the Brokenhearted Print, from $25 for 8x10 in, $29 for 11x14 in and $35 for 16x20 in. Psalm 34:18, with no name or date. Hang it where the person sits in the morning. For a family that has lost someone, The Lord Is My Shepherd Remembrance Print has Psalm 23:1 on a cream print with a simple border, same sizes and prices, and it can be sent as it is. Not for: someone who'd rather be left alone about it, or a moment that needs a visit more than a verse.

The verse the whole idea comes from

Wall art isn't a new idea. Moses told the people to put the words where they'd see them.

And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates. (Deuteronomy 6:9, KJV)

The point was never the decoration. It was the walking past.

For a church or a group

Many churches give a verse print to a newly baptized member, a new baby, a pastor or a graduating senior. Our church page takes orders from 10 to 200 pieces, with a quote and a proof within one business day. The price per piece comes down as the quantity goes up, and the exact number is in the quote.

How we chose

These are the verse prints we sell, so there are no affiliate links in this guide. The prints are typographic, which means words on paper, not paintings or photographs. They're printed to order by our production partner, shipped across Canada with no duties, and priced in Canadian dollars. Frames aren't included. Read how we choose on our disclosure page.
